1) Город на западе штата Миссури, восточный пригород Канзас-Сити [Kansas City]. 113,2 тыс. жителей (2000). Основан в 1849. В XIX в. - один из центров колонизации Запада, находился в начале Орегонской тропы [Oregon Trail] и тропы Санта-Фе [Santa Fe Trail]; во время Гражданской войны [Civil War] дважды переходил из рук в руки. Сельскохозяйственное машиностроение. Производство стрелкового оружия. Пищевая промышленность. Среди достопримечательностей - Дом-музей и Библиотека президента США Гарри Трумэна [Harry S. Truman National Historic Site, Harry S. Truman Presidential Library], бревенчатая хижина [log cabin], где размещался местный суд [Old Jackson County Courthouse] (1824). В окрестностях - форт Осейдж [Fort Osage], первый форпост США на Территории Луизиана [Louisiana Territory]. Крупная публичная библиотека [Independence Public Library].
2) Город на востоке штата Калифорния, в долине Оуэнс [Owens Valley], на северных склонах горы Уитни [Whitney, Mount]. 574 жителя (2000). Близ города добыча золота, ртути. Зимний курорт. Краеведческий музей восточной Калифорнии [Eastern California Museum]
3) Город на юго-востоке штата Канзас, на р. Вердигрис [Verdigris River]. 9,8 тыс. жителей (2000). Основан в 1869 на землях племени осейдж [Osage]. Торговый центр сельскохозяйственного района (озимая пшеница). Добыча нефти и газа. Производство цемента, стройматериалов
